Directorate of Intelligence

A common designation for the intelligence arm of various military and civilian agencies, most notably the USAF and the CIA. In the context of early UFO history, the USAF Directorate of Intelligence was instrumental in establishing the early UFO study projects (Sign, Grudge) and assessing whether flying saucers posed a national security threat.

High-level intelligence body that initiated and oversaw the earliest classified US military studies into the UFO phenomenon.
