The North American F-82 Twin Mustang was the last American piston-engine fighter ordered into production by the USAF, notable for its unique twin-fuselage design. It was heavily utilized as a radar-equipped night fighter in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Due to their night-interceptor role, F-82s were occasionally scrambled to intercept unidentified radar contacts during the early years of the Cold War.
