Historically, the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) maintained its own files on UAPs parallel to the Air Force, often investigating sightings that occurred over oceans or near naval bases.

Recorded numerous pilot and ship-based UAP encounters, becoming the primary military branch associated with modern UAP disclosures.
