George C. McDonald

Also: George McDonald

Major General George C. McDonald served as the US Air Force's Director of Intelligence in the late 1940s, the period when early flying-disc reports were beginning to be examined. While his Directorate sat atop the intelligence chain at the time, the actual Project Sign investigation was run under Air Materiel Command at Wright Field, and accounts indicate the hands-on work was handled largely by subordinates such as Gen. George Schulgen and Col. Howard McCoy rather than directed by McDonald himself.

A key military leader who shaped the initial US Air Force intelligence response to the flying saucer wave of 1947.
