United States Army Air Forces

The military aviation arm of the United States Army during and immediately after World War II, preceding the creation of the independent US Air Force. The USAAF was involved in the earliest modern UFO incidents, most notably the 1947 Roswell incident and the initial wave of 'flying saucer' sightings across North America. Personnel from the AAF were the first to attempt to formally categorize and investigate these unknown aerial objects.
