The predecessor to the National Weather Service, responsible for weather forecasting and meteorological observations. The Weather Bureau frequently launched weather balloons, radiosondes, and rawinsondes, which were commonly misidentified by the public as UFOs. The Bureau often collaborated with the Air Force to identify whether specific UFO sightings correlated with balloon launches.
