United States Department of War

The U.S. Cabinet department originally responsible for the operation and maintenance of the United States Army, existing until it was reorganized into the Department of Defense in 1947. The War Department oversaw the Army Air Forces during the World War II 'foo fighter' era and the very beginning of the modern UFO wave in 1947. Its historical archives contain some of the earliest military documentation regarding unidentified aerial phenomena.
